Programme

BACIP's Summer School is a great opportunity to receive teaching and do some thinking on how to reconcile psychology and Christianity, as well as to meet other psychologists who are Christian too. As with the BACIP Annual Conference, the Summer School is also a chance to meet professionals in the area who are more than happy to talk about their own experiences and offer advice. Everything is kept informal and the programme is tailored to the knowledge and interests of those attending.

The programme for the 2007 Summer School will likely include sessions on being a Christian and a psychologist, basic tools for integrating psychology and theology, a discussion of evolutionary psychology, a viewing of a psychological movie, a talk on Christianity and psychological health, and a discussion on Freud and religion.

Venue

The Summer School has a beautiful setting: the rambling Manor House of the English L'Abri. The L'Abri Fellowship has a history stretching back almost 50 years to its roots in Switzerland, when Francis and Edith Schaeffer decided in faith to open their home to be a place where people might find satisfying answers to their questions and practical demonstration of Christian care. It was called L'Abri, the French word for "shelter", because they sought to provide a shelter from the pressures of a relentlessly secular 20th century. As time went by, so many people came that others were called to join the Schaeffers in their work, and more branches were established. The English L'Abri is situated on about seven acres of land within the lovely Hampshire countryside and provides an excellent venue to consider the relationship between psychology and Christianity while eating tasty food and enjoying good fellowship.
