`Primers`

The BACIP steering group have initiated a series of primers exploring dilemmas facing the Christian studying or practising psychology. The first batch were piloted at the 10th BACIP Annual Conference, and six are now available for download as Adobe Acrobat files. Despite some of them having been downloaded several thousand times, they are all still in draft form, so we`d appreciate your evaluations.

The six primers completed so far:

  1. Evaluating psychological theory from a Christian perspective
  2. Epistemology and postmodernism
  3. Disclosure
  4. Consulting room issues
  5. Christianity and psychological health: Neurosis or coping?
  6. Self-actualisation vs. self-denial

Primers are taught in the spirit of problem-based learning, rather than with heavy didactic input that leads to a predetermined "right answer". However, where background information is needed when they are used in workshop settings it is provided. Primers are suitable for use in local BACIP discussion groups or in university student groups. Eventually, when we have the resources and can add further primer modules, we hope to have a lasting resource for future generations of Christian psychologists.
